As an Art Teacher, I believe that it is very important to continue to create my own work as it enables students to see art in context and keeps the artist refreshed and motivated. Afterall, how can you instill a passion for art in your students if you do not have that passion yourself?
My focuses are on the evolution of landscape: re-appropriation and the development of social and private spaces. The outcomes often reflect my fascination with cataloguing and systems of display - specifically within galleries and museums. I am beginning to develop my work by working with second hand outdated and obsolete books, re-inserting fact or creating a pseudo fact within the existing pages. With heavy editing and inserting new images and sections, my aim is to create a new reality and to provoke the viewer to re-evaluate distribution of knowledge and understanding in a digital age; where information, fact and opinion can be easily fabricated and manipulated towards any bias.
I am also currently creating a website. The aim of the website is to develop an online gallery for students to share their own work with other groups/years in a show at the end of each project. It will also allow a forum for out of class work to be viewed and developed. I aim to create a visitors book so that feedback/praise and questions can be logged to help pupils to progress their work, but also to encourage an environment that is safe allowing pupils to express themselves.
